Thank you, dear and esteemed friends, for the honour and for including my poetry in this endeavour.
My greetings from Greece!
Greece
Seas once wrapped around and nourished our very cells!
In our mother’s womb, we learned to swim...
Then the barriers broke... and the waters poured forth amidst screams and a mighty roar!
And torrents of pain and joy flooded the chambers!...
The sea is never filled by tears and sweat alone!
The waters held in its depths are the earth’s own sweat, flowing to quench our thirst.
They are the sun’s caress upon our faces
The breath of the wind rising high
The cloud born anew to return to us:
As dew
As a sudden downpour
As a gentle touch amidst the snow!
when it finds the roots that hold her flesh together severed
Filling oceans with charred remains.
The thirsty trees drink...
The animals...
The birds...
And humans, too, suck her blood from her veins—like vampires...
...without ever quenching their thirst!
